When One Door Closes, Another Opens: Farewell to CalvinAyre.com
When One Door Closes, Another Opens: Farewell to CalvinAyre.com
“Everything has a beginning, a middle, and an end—including companies,” wrote Samuel H. Liggero. That truth now applies to CalvinAyre.com, a site that has been a cornerstone of iGaming news for over a decade.
A Defining Moment at EiG 2013
In October 2013, after wrapping up CalvinAyre.com’s coverage of the EiG conference in Barcelona, I walked back to the hotel with my producer Rob and camera operator Mani. “I think my calling is Bitcoin,” I told them.
That year, our team had already covered several Bitcoin events, including Bitcoin London and Le Web. Both gatherings featured passionate Bitcoin enthusiasts eager to educate the world on this groundbreaking technology. EiG 2013 also attracted Bitcoin professionals, with a focus on introducing the digital currency as a payment system for iGaming operators.
Calvin Ayre himself recognized Bitcoin’s potential early on. He immediately saw how it could transform his “first love”—the iGaming industry. Little did I realize at the time how significant Bitcoin would become for CalvinAyre.com, for Calvin Ayre personally, and for me as a professional.
The Transition: From CalvinAyre.com to CoinGeek
Fast forward to February 2021, and it’s time for CalvinAyre.com to close its doors. But in a full-circle moment, Bitcoin has truly become my calling. The Bitcoin ecosystem—now in the form of BitcoinSV—has matured to a point where it can solve many of the pain points within the gaming industry.
For this reason, from today, I am moving to CoinGeek.com full time. My focus will be laser-sharp: raising awareness of BitcoinSV within the gaming industry and highlighting the innovative minds and powerful BitcoinSV-powered solutions already on the market.
Reflecting on 11 Years of Growth and Relationships
Looking back on my 11-plus years with CalvinAyre.com, I’ve built lifelong friendships. I’ve attended countless industry events, interviewed hundreds of leaders, made thousands of contacts, and deepened relationships with organizers. I even had the honor of delivering a DAF award or two back in the day (who remembers?!). But the best part was working with some of the most incredible colleagues—many of whom I now count as dear friends.
When I joined CalvinAyre.com in August 2009, the industry had a massive gap: there was no honest, transparent news site producing regular, fresh video content. Over time, our tiny team of a handful of people grew to dozens, delivering the juiciest breaking news and cutting-edge video coverage to the global gaming community.
Today, we pass the torch to our event-organizing and media-production friends, who have recently built outstanding news coverage and video teams dedicated to the gaming space. I hope to see them at future CoinGeek Conferences.
Why Bitcoin Still Excites Me
Reflecting on my words at EiG back in 2013, it was the entrepreneurial energy, the innovation, and the excitement surrounding Bitcoin that originally drew me in. Back then, my obsession wasn’t about price—it was about the disruptive technology itself. That’s what truly mattered.
Sure, much has changed for Bitcoin between 2013 and now. But the energy, the innovation, and the excitement remain. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my career with Calvin Ayre and the Ayre Media team.
Stay in Touch
For those who wish to reach out, my contact information stays the same. My door is always open. I welcome you to join me on this journey, and I sincerely hope to see you at the next CoinGeek Conference—the ultimate meeting place for anyone as excited about BitcoinSV technology as I am.
