UKGC Suspends the Operating Licenses of BresBet and Bet St George
The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced the suspension of operating licenses for two companies suspected of violating regulatory rules. BresBet and Bet St George have been ordered to inform their customers of the situation as the regulator investigates alleged compliance failures.
UKGC Suspends Two Licenses
According to the UKGC’s official announcement, both BresBet and Bet St George have had their licenses suspended following commission inquiries that uncovered suspected non-compliance. The UKGC believes the two gaming operators violated UK rules on social responsibility and anti-money laundering (AML).
- BresBet (operating license no 065252-R-340096-002) operates the bresbet.com website.
- Bet St George (operating license no 067818-R-341699-001) operates betsgeorge.com.
The UKGC stated that it is now conducting a review of both licenses under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005. The suspension will remain in place until the two businesses achieve a satisfactory level of compliance with UK regulations.
Customer Communication and Fair Treatment
The UKGC emphasized that both BresBet and Bet St George must keep their customers informed about any developments that affect them. Additionally, the operators are expected to treat consumers fairly throughout the process.
The suspensions take effect immediately. While players are temporarily restricted from placing new bets, the suspension does not prevent either operator from allowing customers to withdraw their funds. The UK regulator encouraged players to contact the operators directly with any further questions.
UKGC Continues to Take Action Against Non-Compliant Companies
The suspension of BresBet and Bet St George follows recent enforcement actions by the UKGC against other operators.
- QuinnBet Limited, a Gibraltar-based company operating quinnbet.com, was fined GBP 609,104 ($830,000) for serious anti-money laundering and social responsibility failures.
- Holland Park Leisure Limited, which runs three Adult Gaming Centers in Leicester, was fined GBP 150,000 (roughly $202,000) for self-exclusion failings.
These actions demonstrate the UKGC’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that all licensed operators adhere to strict regulatory standards.
