Spotlight Sports Group enters gaming with Engage Games partnership

Spotlight Sports Group Enters Gaming Through Engage Games Partnership

Spotlight Sports Group (SSG) has made its first move into the gaming sector through a new strategic collaboration with supplier Engage Games. Announced on Thursday, the partnership will give SSG’s global network of sportsbook operators access to Engage Games’ custom-built titles, which are developed in close collaboration with SSG’s partners.

This marks Spotlight’s initial expansion into gaming, bringing together the company’s international product and content distribution capabilities with Engage Games’ established expertise in both free-to-play and pay-to-play gaming.

Why Spotlight Is Entering the Gaming Space

According to Spotlight, the decision to enter the gaming market reflects a broader industry trend. Operators are increasingly turning to free-to-play games as a powerful tool for engagement, player retention, reactivation, and acquisition.

The games offered through the partnership will include fantasy, predictor, survivor, and bet builder mechanics. Racing-themed titles will be powered by Spotlight’s Smart View Engine, adding a layer of proprietary data and technology to the experience.

Leadership Perspectives on the Deal

Rob Brown, B2B Growth Director at Spotlight Sports Group, said the partnership expands SSG’s offering by combining Engage Games’ engine with Spotlight’s data, content, and global distribution reach.

“This partnership marks a significant step for SSG as we extend our product capability into the games space,” Brown said. “In Engage Games, we have found a partner with a proven ability to deliver games that produce real commercial outcomes for partners.”

Ryan Lawrence, founder of Engage Games, echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the value of aligning with a trusted industry name.

“Partnering with SSG – one of the most trusted names in global racing and sports betting – reflects the reputation and results we’ve built, and it’s the natural next step in our mission, to get better game experiences into the hands of as many players as possible,” Lawrence said. “Through SSG’s network, we can now put proven, performance-driven capabilities in front of operators and rights holders worldwide.”

Spotlight’s Next Phase of Growth

Spotlight, the parent company of media outlet Racing Post, has been investing heavily in expanding its product ecosystem. In June, the company appointed Adam Gill as its new Chief Technology Officer. Gill joined from market research firm Savanta and now leads Spotlight’s technology and engineering teams across the group, with a strong focus on engaging new audiences.

“As Racing Post enters its 40th year, there is a real opportunity to use technology to engage new audiences, deepen the value we deliver to operators and make AI a practical capability across the business,” Gill said.

Recent Product Developments

The gaming expansion follows a broader innovation push. In January, Spotlight outlined its 2026 Racing Innovation strategy, which includes two major product releases: the Smart View Tipping Feed and Racing Bet Builder. Both tools are designed for operators, offering algorithm-driven features that boost customer engagement while simplifying the betting journey.

With this new partnership, Spotlight is positioning itself not only as a content and technology leader in sports betting but also as a serious player in the wider gaming ecosystem.
