Powerball Awards $1M Match 5 Prizes to Players in Georgia and California
Powerball Drawing Recap: Jackpot Climbs to $131 Million After No Grand Prize Winner
The latest Powerball drawing offered players a chance at a $119 million jackpot, but no one matched all six numbers. However, two ticket holders came extremely close and secured seven-figure payouts instead. As a result, the top prize has rolled over and now stands at $131 million for the next drawing.
Two Lucky Players Win $1 Million Match 5 Prizes
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot was the first in the current cycle to exceed $100 million. The prize was set at $119 million (with a cash option of $51.7 million), representing a life-changing payout for any winner. Unfortunately, no one managed to hit the winning combination.
For reference, the winning white numbers drawn on Saturday, August 29, were 18, 56, 62, 65, and 67, with a red Powerball of 18 and a Power Play multiplier of 2x.
Although the jackpot went unclaimed, two players successfully matched all five white numbers, earning themselves a Match 5 prize. Since neither had activated the Power Play feature, each will receive $1 million instead of the $2 million offered to Power Play Match 5 winners. The winning tickets were purchased in Georgia and California. Note that the payout for the California winner may vary slightly due to the state’s unique method of calculating lottery prizes.
In addition, nine players matched four white numbers plus the red Powerball. Of these, three had activated Power Play and will take home $100,000 each, while the remaining six will receive $50,000 each.
Powerball Jackpot Continues to Rise
With the jackpot still unclaimed, the prize has climbed further. As of the latest update, the top prize is $131 million, with a cash option of $56.8 million. The next drawing is scheduled for later today, giving players another chance at this substantial payout. A hypothetical winner may choose either the annuitized option (paid in annual installments) or the one-time lump sum.
The previous Powerball jackpot was won just a few weeks ago, when a player in Illinois took home a life-changing $1.04 billion prize. That win came shortly after the jackpot hit the billion-dollar mark and became the second-largest lottery prize ever won in Illinois.
Since then, a player in Florida claimed a $1 million Match 5 prize. Meanwhile, the drawing before Saturday’s produced several third-tier winners: five players won $50,000 each and three took home $100,000 each thanks to the Power Play and the 2x multiplier.
