Ontario iGaming Wagers Hit Record $9.88B as Casino Play Rises
Ontario’s regulated iGaming market reached a new milestone in July, with total wagers hitting CAD$9.884 billion. The record-setting month was driven largely by a 6% increase in casino play, along with a boost from World Cup betting and the highly anticipated launch of Hard Rock Bet in the province.
Record Monthly Handle for Ontario Operators
Overall cash wagers rose 4% compared to June, according to iGaming Ontario’s latest report. The growth was fueled by strong casino activity and major sports betting interest in the FIFA World Cup, which ran from June 11 to July 19 across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Sportsbooks reported record-setting handle numbers on the tournament.
The headline industry event in July was the official launch of Hard Rock Bet in Ontario. The platform offers sports betting alongside an online casino with more than 3,000 games, including slots, table games, and live dealer content. The Ontario launch marked Hard Rock Bet’s first international expansion and is tied to the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, which opened in July 2025.
Revenue and Player Activity Climb
Gaming Revenue Reaches $413.6 Million
Total non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) came in at $413.6 million for July, a 3% increase from the previous month. NAGGR represents the amount operators retain from gambling activity before deducting bonuses, promotional credits, taxes, fees, and operating costs.
Active player accounts also grew, rising 3% from June to 1.365 million. Average revenue per active player account remained steady at $303, matching the previous month’s figure.
Active Accounts Climb 3%
The number of active accounts continues to show steady momentum, reflecting sustained engagement across Ontario’s licensed platforms. With 48 licensed operators and 83 gaming websites currently live and accepting wagers, the market remains highly competitive and diverse.
Segment Breakdown: Casino, Sports Betting, and Poker
Casino Leads With 89% Market Share
Casino handle totalled $8.78 billion in July, up 6% from June and representing an 89% share of the overall market. Casino NAGGR reached $330.4 million, a 4% month-over-month increase, giving the segment an 80% share of total revenue.
Sports Betting Handle Slips 4%
Sports betting handle came in at $992 million, a 4% decrease from June, but still accounted for a 10% market share. Sports betting NAGGR was $77.8 million, a 1% dip from the previous month, representing 19% of total NAGGR.
Peer-to-Peer Poker Down 8%
Peer-to-peer poker handle totalled $116 million, down 8% month over month, with a 1% market share. Poker NAGGR, however, rose 3% to $5.3 million, also holding a 1% share of overall revenue.
Hard Rock Bet Debuts in Ontario
The launch of Hard Rock Bet was the standout industry development in July. The platform combines sports betting and a full online casino experience, featuring more than 3,000 games, including top slots, table games, and live dealer offerings. The Ontario rollout represents Hard Rock Bet’s first international expansion, strategically linked to the opening of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa in July 2025.
With record handle, strong casino growth, and major brand launches, Ontario’s regulated iGaming market continues to solidify its position as a leading player in North America.
