Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $177M for Friday Drawing

No Jackpot Winner in Tuesday’s Drawing

The latest Mega Millions drawing failed to produce a jackpot winner, as no player matched all six winning numbers. The Tuesday, September 1, drawing also had no Match 5 winners, leaving the top prize for that tier at $40,000.

Top Prize for the Tuesday Drawing Was $40,000

In Tuesday’s drawing, players competed for a $160 million jackpot, with a cash option of $68.9 million. While such a payout would be a dream come true for nearly anyone, no one managed to match all six numbers required to claim that windfall.

The winning numbers drawn on Tuesday, September 1, were:

In addition to the jackpot going unclaimed, no player scored a Match 5 prize (worth between $2 million and $10 million), as no one matched all five white numbers.

However, a handful of players correctly guessed four white numbers plus the gold Mega Ball, making them eligible for tier-three prizes. The highest such payout was $40,000. Here is a breakdown of those wins:

Players Will Get Another Shot at the Jackpot Very Soon

While $40,000 is nothing to sneeze at, it is still a far cry from a nine-figure jackpot. Fortunately, players will have another chance to claim the top prize in the Friday drawing, scheduled for September 4 at 11 p.m. ET.

Since the latest drawing did not produce a winner, the jackpot has grown to $177 million for Friday’s drawing. A hypothetical winner could choose between the annuitized option for the full sum or a one-time lump sum payment of $76.3 million.

Recent Big Winners in Other Drawings

In other news, previous Mega Millions drawings have crowned several large winners. In the August 28 drawing, two ticket holders won $3 million each after matching all five white numbers with a 3x multiplier. Those winning tickets were sold in Missouri and Tennessee, according to lottery officials.

Similarly, the August 25 drawing saw a player in New Mexico match all five winning numbers with a 2x ticket, allowing that lucky ticket holder to claim a $2 million prize.
