Fontainebleau Las Vegas Launches Probe After Glass Window Plummets From Resort
Fontainebleau Las Vegas Launches Investigation After Glass Panel Falls Onto Las Vegas Boulevard
A glass panel fell from the upper floors of the Fontainebleau Las Vegas tower onto Las Vegas Boulevard on Wednesday (Aug. 26), an incident that resort officials confirmed is now under investigation.
An Uber driver posted a photo of the damage, saying the glass struck the roof of his vehicle while he was driving past the Fontainebleau. The image, shared on Reddit by user @PeterPipersPickles, shows a missing pane in the tower’s exterior.
Resort Prioritizes Safety, Cordon Off Affected Area
“The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority,” the resort’s statement read. “We can confirm glass fell from the exterior of the building, and the affected area was immediately cordoned off. We are investigating the cause.”
No injuries were reported, and officials have not disclosed further details. The incident first came to light when the Reddit user posted that glass struck his car while he was working for Uber. He also provided a photo of the tower with the missing pane.
Not the First Incident of Falling Glass
This is not the first time glass has fallen from the 67-story tower. Weeks before its December 2023 opening, strong wind gusts knocked scaffolding into several panes, causing them to shatter and fall onto the pool deck below.
At that time, a Clark County spokesperson told KLAS-TV that the gusts did not dislodge panels from their secured positions. “All aspects of the project have been designed, constructed, and inspected in accordance with all applicable codes,” the Fontainebleau said then.
A Resort Two Decades in the Making
The Fontainebleau first broke ground in 2007 but was abandoned during the 2009 financial crisis. It changed ownership several times before returning to Fontainebleau Development CEO Jeffrey Soffer and partners, including Kansas conglomerate Koch Industries’ real estate wing, in February 2021. The resort finally opened on Dec. 13, 2023.
This is a developing story.
