First Powerball Match 5 Prize Lands in the United Kingdom
First UK Match 5 Prize in Powerball History
A player in the United Kingdom has become the first to win a Match 5 prize in the Powerball lottery, just weeks after the game became available to British residents. This milestone follows the recent expansion of Powerball overseas, which now allows UK players to compete for the same jackpot as their American counterparts. The achievement raises anticipation for when the first full jackpot win might occur on British soil.
A Historic Overseas Win
Powerball launched in the UK only a few weeks ago as part of Allwyn’s ongoing modernisation of The National Lottery. British players can now vie for the same uncapped jackpot and prizes as players in the United States, although tickets are slightly more expensive. This marks the first time UK residents have had a chance to play for a prize pool with no upper limit.
While no British player has yet won the jackpot itself, one ticket holder has just secured a Match 5 prize worth $1 million by matching all five white numbers but missing the red Powerball. At the same time, a player in New York achieved the same feat, also collecting a $1 million Match 5 prize.
For reference, the winning Powerball numbers from the Monday, August 31, drawing were 11, 17, 25, 37, and 49, with the red Powerball 10. The Power Play multiplier was 2×.
In addition to the two Match 5 winners, a dozen players won tier‑three prizes by matching four white numbers plus the Powerball. Nine of those ticket holders can claim $50,000 each, while the remaining three – thanks to the Power Play feature – will receive $100,000 each.
Jackpot Climbs to $146 Million for Wednesday
The jackpot stood at $134 million for Monday’s drawing and has now risen to $146 million for the Wednesday draw. A hypothetical winner could choose between the full annuitised sum or a one‑time lump sum of $63.3 million.
So far in 2026, Powerball has awarded six jackpots, with the most recent taking place only a few weeks ago. Now that the first UK Match 5 prize has been claimed, interest is growing as to whether a British player will be the next to snatch a full jackpot.
In related news, Saturday’s Powerball drawing also produced two Match 5 prizes – one for a player in California and another in Georgia. A few drawings earlier, a player in Florida won a $1 million Match 5 prize as well.
